Holiday Banquet 2024

I was delighted residents from across Ward 13 come together for a festive evening this past December 11 at the St. Lawrence Hall.

My banquet was a wonderful opportunity to catch up, enjoy delicious food, and connect with friends and neighbours. My team worked to deliver a delicious meal from a variety of local businesses here in Ward 13 to all guests, and I'm happy to report that no stomach went unfilled.

The night was made even more special by performances from violinist Declan and singers Si Ya and Ferdos. They helped make the evening magical.

I was also proud to honor seven community members and two non-profit local organizations from Ward 13, as well as Dr. Eileen de Villa, who recently retired as Toronto's Medical Officer of Health, with my 2024 Toronto Centre Community Builder Award. The award recognizes their exceptional contributions to our vibrant community.

Speaking of my Community Builder Awards, I was proud to acknowledge the following recipients for 2024:

Cindy Wilkey and John Wilson - for their work steering the revitalization of the West Don Lands/Canary District;
Friends of Allan Gardens - for creating a strong, sustainable future for Allan Gardens;
Henry Hong - for tireless advocacy as part of the Garden District Residents Association;
Ines Garcia - for their entrepreneurship and community advocacy in Regent Park;
Madison Matti Charlton - for their work creating the new street signs in Church Wellesley village;
Nancy Fung - for helping her neighbourhood reduce their environmental impact through the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association Waste Reduction Group;
Neighbourhood Information Post - for supporting communities through the Rent Bank program and other initiatives; and
Yanique Stirlin - for their community-centred outreach in the St. James Town neighbourhood.

Church Street Pedestrianization Public Survey

The City is doing a survey of the Church Street Pedestrianization Project that my office and the Church-Wellesley Village BIA is operating on Church Street between Wellesley Street East and Alexander Street until August 21. Identify ‘N Impact Youth Grants - Apply by September 15!

The City of Toronto’s Identify ‘N Impact community grant helps promote youth engagement and community safety by providing up to $17K for youth-led (15-29) initiatives that help with violence prevention, mental health and well-being, skills development, arts and youth-friendly spaces. Applications are now open until September 15 at 12:00pm.

Biidaasige Park is Bigger, Better and more Beautiful!

Opened last year, Biidaasige Park is expanding with 10 more acres of public waterfront space at 238 Cherry Street on Ookwemin Minising. With new places to walk, cycle, paddle, gather, enjoy public art and take in skyline views, residents and visitors are invited to come celebrate during opening weekend on July 25 and 26. See what’s happening this weekend and beyond, including free guided kayak tours, walking tours and art-making workshops.
