Leaf it to us: Yard Waste Safe Collection

The City collects yard waste – including small tree branches, weeds, brush and mulch – every other week on regularly scheduled garbage collection days from mid-March to mid-December. This helps divert more than 85,000 tonnes of yard waste away from landfill each year.

Knowing what is accepted and how to properly set out your yard waste helps to ensure safe and efficient collection and reduce injuries to collection staff. What is the preferred method for yard waste disposal?

Paper yard waste bags are the preferred method for yard waste disposal, but rigid open-top containers that meet size requirements and are not overfilled are also accepted.

The City of Toronto’s Identify ‘N Impact community grant helps promote youth engagement and community safety by providing up to $17K for youth-led (15-29) initiatives that help with violence prevention, mental health and well-being, skills development, arts and youth-friendly spaces. Applications are now open until September 15 at 12:00pm.
